I was checking out a 7 Plus and looking at Prime Video and Netflix on both, the image was quite dark even with brightness all the way up on both the tablet and the apps. Is this a quirk of the tablet?

Just to add: I tried everything (I'm a seasoned Android user, having used it since first betas and worked with rooting & custom ROMs). Video in both were quite dark, really unwatchable. No similar issue with video streamed from my NAS, YouTube or downloaded. Nor is it a problem with my 8" Tab S2. I ended up returning it as a result.

Hmm wonder if this setting was enabled?
Settings>advance feature> video brightness

Yeah, thanks for the replies. Clearly, something was either wrong with the tablet or what I was doing. Given that all other video sources looked great and others haven't encountered this, I'm inclined to think the latter ...

I wish I could verify but don't have this tablet, your welcome!

Just to be sure -- you also made sure the app's own brightness settings were up? In Netflix, when the movie first starts playing (or after tapping once on the screen to get the playback controls to appear), look at the brightness slider at the left.

I’ve just noticed that my tab s2 is way brighter than the tab s7 plus while playing content on Netflix
