Network issues.

I have a ZTE AXon M. When I put a Mint Mobile phone into the phone I get all bars with 4G LTE. When I enter My MetroPCS sim it shows no bars but detects everything else from, phone number, signal strength, but shows Unknown network. Anyone know whats going on? Is my simcard not formatted properly for the phone or what? I bought it on Amazon as a AT&T unlocked, and if my understanding of phones is correct. If I put in a different sim it would ask for a unlock code and would reject it if i didn't give one. Can anyone explain?
