Android Central Question

I bought a TCL S615 Android TV running version 9. It is connected to WiFi, but under Device Preferences -> Storage the Network Storage option is not showing. That means I cannot mount the Synology Diskstation that contains my videos. The Media Player app that came with the TV can see and access the Synology SMB share, but Kodi cannot see it and when I enter the network path in Kodi (smb://ds118) I get an error message (KOdi does not have permission to access this device or something like that).

I have two questions:
1. Why is the Network Storage option not visible? It works fine on my NVIDIA Shield TV box that is connected to the same network?
2. Why can Kodi not access the SMB share? Is there a way to give Kodi permission without mounting the disc via Device Preferences -> Storage -> Network Storage?

Thanks

This is nothing to do with your TV. It's likely you are using incompatible SMB versions. Leia uses SMB V2 so you need to use the same version on your Diskstation.

I don't think you need to mess with the Settings >> Device Preferences >> Storage menu options, given that your TV apparently is already connected to your home LAN and the preinstalled media app can already detect your NAS. Since your NAS shared directory is already mounted, that would indicate a problem might be with the Kodi app.

-- -- On your TV go back into Settings, find the Apps menu, then find and open the Kodi app entry. In the 'Permissions' menu is 'Storage' enabled? If not, enable it and see if that makes any difference. Also, Is anything showing in the Defaults menu?
-- If nothing looks out of sorts, try this. Tap on 'Force stop' and the try using 'Clear cache' first and see if the Kodi app is able to detect your NAS, if that doesn't work, go through the same steps but use 'Clear data' instead. (This time, when you open the Kodi app you'll need to reenter your Kodi account user name/password info again. 'Clear data' will wipe the app's configuration and settings data, along with the app's cache, essentially returning the app back to its original, first-time used state.)
