I am wanting to root my phone and have no idea where to even begin. Is there an easy dummy proof way to do this without bricking my phone or messing it up in anyway?

I am wanting to eliminate bloatware and make the phone work to its full potential (if thats possible).

Can anyone help guide me in the right direction and take baby steps with me to do this lol. Thank you advance!!

Thanks I'll check that link out. I have watched a few youtube videos about it but the thing is most of them are for the UK verison. I need the US verison s3 lol

So, if I was too root my phone. Could I over clock it to make it faster? I think that is the term I have heard before lol. And removing the apps that are not needed.

Yes, you can overclock (or underclock) to make things better :)

I personally don't have any bloat apps on my phone. The ROM I flashed didn't come with them.

So removing bloarware does help with speed?

gsder what is the difference in this one opposed to others listed?

Removing bloatware will free up precious RAM, which is the devices random access memory. The more available RAM you have makes your device a little quicker, as it doesn't have to sort through a ton of crap to find what it's looking for. But that's not over clocking. That has to do with making your processor run faster than it was set up to by the manufacturer and/or carrier. Rooting makes this possible along with a large variety of apps available here and on the play store. But as stated, be careful not to use one that will allow it to run too fast. The last thing you want to do is damage your processor! I personally use No-frills CPU Control because it's pretty simple to set up, gives me some options, and will only let me set the speed to a max of 1.512 GHz, which is the devices advertised speed. But I can set it to run at that speed constantly, as needed, at certain times, or at max speed when needed then back to an adjustable minimum when not needed.(helps battery life). I'm sure there are other apps that will allow higher speeds but I refuse to even look into them out of fear of temptation to try to get just a little more out of my phone. I've learned the hard way to be very careful with the power that rooting gives me.

"With great power comes great responsibility!"
No idea who said that:)

Framaroot is an app that you install and run, and it handles the rooting exploit and putting the SuperUser binaries on the phone. (As I mentioned earlier, I have not personally tried this.)

All of the other rooting processes require you to connect the phone to a PC (Windows-based; seems like the Mac folks aren't well supported) via USB to accomplish the rooting process.

Thank y'all for all the great information. Is there a video I can watch that shows how to do all this. I'm a visual learner lol. Ive checked youtube but most them seem to be for the UK verisons of the phone.

Check the stickys at the top of rooting, ROM and hacks part of this forum which will have links to all the rooting info you need for this phone. You could also simply Google "how to root galaxy S3 I535" (if that's your model) and you'll find a plethora of results, many of which will bring you right back here.
But just a word of caution! Be very thorough and do tons of research before rooting, especially the section involving the bootlocker. The process of unlocking this on the newest galaxy devices is nothing to take lightly. Samsung/Verizon decided that they want to discourage people from modifying their devices, so the workaround for this is should be followed very closely. I don't say this to scare you, but rather encourage you to get all the info you can. Whatch videos, print out instructions, ask questions, do research, and you should be fine. Just take your time and follow instructions.
Also, if you've received the 4.3 update you may want to wait awhile because its rumored that this update has added new security to discourage rooting. Developers will quickly find another workaround for this should it be true. You can check which firmware you have by looking under settings/about phone/Android version. Most likely you'll see that you have 4.1.2 which is safe to root via the methods I mentioned.
Remember, information is power. Just be careful with it.
Good luck, and have fun. Once you do it you'll realize it wasn't so hard and you'll feel a little more experienced and empowered.

Let us know how you make out:)

Just a note, over and underclocking (yes, people underclock to save battery sometimes) is done via the kernel, not a custom ROM. So you need to load a custom kernel that allows changing the cpu clock.
