New Android User Need Advice On Rooting

I've been reading alot regarding Rooting and Unrooting the phone.

and its great, but what happens if you root the phone and update comes out and automatically updates your phone?

So for example with Bionic, Moto is making patch to block Rooting. What happens if i root and this update comes out?

you have to confirm any OTA update before it installs on your phone, so no worry of that. and even if you are rooted and take an OTA, it usually just causes you to lose your root access (until the next exploit is found ).

I have a question also, about rooting.

I'm not sure if I need to bother, because so far I haven't been restricted in my usage.

So, what exactly are my benefits in rooting? More customization? Cause I like the idea of that a lot.

If I do root, will the phone act exactly as it does right now, just with extra access? I may sound stupid, but I mean will I still have all the apps installed that I already do? And all the settings? I just want to make sure that I'll still have Market and all that. Also, what do the different ROMs do?
