New AT&T S4 update and soft key back light problem

Last year I received the KitKat update to my AT&T Samsung S4, which up until that point was in prefect /new condition. It basically was new, and that was the first update I'd ever received. Not a good experience!

After the update my soft keys weren't working properly and would go haywire - a problem that seems to have affected alot of people. Eventually, the soft keys did start working properly with time (thank goodness). However, the backlight for all 3 available keys - Menu, Home & Back - has never functioned since.

Now I have a notification for the next update! I've been putting it off, but it's inevitable. So now I'm wondering if there is any chance the new update might resolve the last updates' glitch & give me my softkey/home backlight back - or - is there something I should do to make sure this update doesn't further damage the phone? I figured if there is anything I can do to correct the problem I should probably do it ASAP. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Android Central! It's always worth wiping the cache partition after a system update, which can sometimes correct various issues: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744. Sometimes, a full factory reset is worth doing, although it can be a hassle.
