New Droid X owner, shipped faster than promised

Hey guys,

I am ditching my Storm as so many before me have. I ordered on 8/31 from Verizon's website. It said it would ship on 9/16 that day. I got an email confirmation today with a tracking number showing that it was shipped today (9/7) andwill be here tomorrow. So, if you're thinking about ordering, hopefully you get as lucky as I was and don't have to wait as long.

That having been said, anyone able to tell me the best way to back up my contacts from my Storm and import them to the X when it gets here tomorrow?

Download Google Sync to your Berry and then sync your contacts with Gmail. When you get your DX up and running, your contacts that you synced will magically appear on your new phone (along with any other contacts you have in Gmail). That's what I did just last week. I just got my DX from a Storm 2 on Friday.

you can also use verizon's backup assistant if you want. personally i never use it, but my sister did when she switched from her storm to my old incredible

Me too! Ordered mine on 9/2 got my email today and it will be delivered on Thursday. The rep in the store said it may ship a day or two early (from the 15th) but they realy under promised it seems>

I ordered mine over the phone due to several weeks of issues with my Tour. Called today to make sure there wouldn't be a delay(Vzw site says 9/20 shipping date). Rep said nothing new on the account yet.

I'm soooo anxious to get my hands on the X! A few of my friends have it, and I am pretty jealous at this point.

I'm giddy with excitement too. I have hated my storm for so long now, but never really wanted to pay retail for a new phone.

Anyways, I try to shop local first. The rep told me that if I buy online, it will definitely ship the day the website says, so i should buy from him on the slight chance it might ship early. I asked if there was any benefit to shopping with him that might outweigh the fact that I would pay an extra $20 "early upgrade" fee, and have to deal with a $100 mail in rebate. The best he could come up with was that it would help him out.

I've been in sales for the past 10 years and salespeople still never cease to amaze me haha.

Well, I had no insurance, my Tour was a couple of weeks out of warranty, and my upgrade wasn't til the end of the year. I managed to get the Droid for half price. Also, no new contract, I would have to pay $35 restocking fee if I returned phone within 30 days. A def win imo.

I've used the Verizon Backup Assistant for my last 2 or 3 phones. It works just fine.

What I like about Google Sync is that it backs up both your Blackberry contacts AND calendar. Then, when you get the X, you will have your Blackberry contacts AND calendar entries show up on the X.

However, the calendar sync only works had you been using Google Sync on the Blackberry at the time the calendar entries were created. At the time you install Google Sync on the Blackberry, it starts syncing NEW calendar entries with the Google calendar but I don't think it syncs up any existing BB calendar entries at the time you install it.

I have been using Google Sync from day 1 so all my BB calendar entries show up in my Google calendar already.

I started using google sync a week before my x arrived in preparation for leaving my storm 2. Any calendar entries made during that week transferred over but I had to manually enter everything else. No trouble with contacts transferring though

Thanks for sharing...gives me hope! I too am finally ditching my Storm for the X. Ordered on 9/4...expected ship date 9/17.

Now I have hope I will have something to enjoy sooner than later!

Yup. Ordered mine yesterday where the note said shipping by 9/20. Email confirmation today that is shipped and will be here on 9/14! woohoo!
