New egg pre order

Nice, thanks for reminding me that newegg carries cell phones and gives discounts similar to wirefly and amazon.com. I might just go through them for the epic, after it comes out of course. If it's anything like the Vibrant and Captivate, it'll drop $50-100 on the first and 2nd day of release. This is of course assuming stock isn't low or completely depleted.

Thanks for the heads up, I have now ordered through newegg. I have been buying computer components from them for years, but this will be the first phones from them.

Don't expect NewEgg quality customer support that's Simplixity, their rating is pretty bad to say the least.

I'm hoping that if I have a problem with the phone that requires an exchange or repair that I could still do that through a Sprint store. I've been a Sprint customer for quite a while and only once have I returned a phone, not because it had a problem, but because I decided to get a different phone. I will have to go to the Sprint store to get my contacts and whatever transferred, I also assumed that would not be a problem, but maybe I am assuming too much. Has anyone had actual issues with support with this vendor?

Sprint will not accept a return from another vendor. It clearly states on the website that purchases through them cannot be returned to a sprint store and will have to be mailed back to them.

Yeah, but if you just need to exchange because it is faulty or something, so long as you pay the $7 a month for sprint TEP plan you can just bring it right to the store no problem. It's only returns if you don't like or want the phone that causes a problem. Or if you don't pay for the equipment protection.

Not within the 30 days. During that period you have to return it to where you purchased it and get a new device. After 30 day period you can get a replacement from Sprint but it will be refurbished device. If there is a problem within 30 days wouldn't you prefer a new device? That's one reason why I prefer to purchase from Sprint.

Can you get the protection plan for a few months then cancel it as depreciation sets in, or does it run for the life of the current agreement?

You can cancel the protection anytime. I think the protection is a rip off since you already have a 1 year warranty. The only protection I would get is the Insurance for stolen, lost or physically damaged devices for $4.00

Yes, you can cancel TEP at any time. And this is exactly what I did with my Palm Pre.

My reasoning was: TEP provides free fixes for non-abuse issues, and a $100 deductible for abuse, loss, theft, etc. Of course, Sprint fixes non-abuse issues for free during the 1-year warranty period, anyhow.

So once the craigslist price of the Pre dropped below $200 or so, I dropped TEP. I figured I could get Sprint to fix any manufacturer's defects, and I'd just roll the dice that I wouldn't smash or lose my phone (I've never smashed or lost a phone before, so it seemed reasonable). Even if I did lose my phone, I'd be out less than $100 more than the deductible: an acceptable risk for me.

Now, if you're hard on your phones, or you lose them a lot, then you should probably keep TEP. But for me, I dropped it and saved some $ each month.

I've never used the protection plan before, I was unsure how much risk there might be with the Newegg preorder vs getting the phones from the Sprint store. I will keep my Pre as a fallback if one of the phones is damaged or lost, previously an Instinct was left sitting in the sun and the screen shattered.

With the deductible the plan never seemed worth it, but since the epic is more expensive to replace it made me wonder if I should reconsider my order through newegg or whoever it really is, or if I should get the protection plan for at least the first few months - the $4 version of the plan for 6 months times two phones would be $48 - about what I saved in sales tax. In eleven months I could get an upgrade to replace a lost or damaged phone, if necessary, so closer to the other side of the depreciation cycle.

Where does it say within the first 30 days? I didn't see anything saying that on the TEP plan and if I am paying the $7 a month I am pretty sure it guarantees the phone you are covering under it can be replaced at any sprint store, anytime, for free for any non damage reason. However if you can show me proof that there is a 30 day period I'd love to see it. The only time i recall seeing anything like that was in that silly sprint epic 4g playbook.

Call Sprint and ask if you don't believe it. The first 30 days is covered by the seller. That's something standard with any purchase from retail stores.

Just pre-ordered form NewEgg.

After waiting on hold for 25 minutes someone picked up with wheresmyorder.com. I guess this is the actual company that you are dealing with. I got the phone for $246.98 shipped. The activation fee is $18.00 which I was told will be charged on the first sprint bill and then credited back to me within 3 months. I got a $7.00 a month insurance plan that covers everything but water damage. AC just reviewed a nice water bag for your phone so I will probably buy one of those. The man also said that the phone should ship within 2-3 business days. I don't think that is going to happen but it would be awsome! I think its gonna be 2-3 days from 8/31. I hope to get the phone before Labor Day weekend and no later than the week after.

So, with ETF and calling in next week to cancel the account...you can get a EPIC outright for 399.99$ if you game the system (slightly). Plus a small slice of your first week or so of that monthly bill tacked on.

Nice to know! Thank you!!
