Just noticed I've received this today. Haven't been able to find any change logs, so maybe just bug fixes? I'm going to use them a bit to see if I can notice any improvements.

What's the process to update them? Just open the case and connect?

To check for the update and get the process started you connect your Pixel Buds to your phone, open the Pixel Buds app, tap on “More settings,” and then “Firmware update.” Make sure you have “Automatic updates” toggled on, or you may want to toggle it off and back on again. After that, you sort of just listen to your Buds for a while (or at least leave them out of the case) to let the update download in the background.

After you’ve listened for a while (10-15 mins) and we assume that an update is ready to install, you drop your Buds back in their case and then the update will install.

Note: I copied from an article in Droid Life..full disclosure, lol.

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply!

Do I keep the buds in the case open or closed? I kept them out of the case and connected for about 20 minutes and then put them in the case but open. Nothing is happening even though the app says update available.

Well,I had left my case closed overnight, and this morning, the update was there. I didn't even know the update was available until this morning, so I'm thinking you'd want to close the case.

Yeah, I just got off a chat with Google and they confirmed you have to close the case. They said they will update their instructions to include this step.

UPDATE: after having the case closed for about an hour I reconnected and the software was updated to 553.
