New Fold 2 - Back / Home / Recent apps not working

My wife just got a Samsung Z Fold 2 (old phone died, limited choices), which I love and she is ... adjusting to. The one real problem she's having is that while using an app (Samsung's email app, for instance) with the screen unfolded, the 3 buttons at the bottom right (the standard Android Recent apps / Home / Back buttons) don't work. They don't do anything at all when you tap them. If she puts the phone to sleep and wakes it back up, or even just partially folds then unfolds it, they come back to life. It's very annoying. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Was there a recent update that caused this?
Try clearing cache in recovery , if still happens then try safe mode

Did clearing cache or booting in Safe Mode fix the issue?

it could be a random occurrence of update not completing properly...
You could submit an error report to Samsung Members when it happens again or reproduce the issue, being that it's a software issue the Samsung techs should be able to fix it for you or at the least narrow down the cause.

Thanks for the suggestions. (Apologies for not replying sooner.) There were numerous updates in the days after she bought the phone, so there could be something there. Will look into it.

Deep apologies for not keeping up with this. What seems to happen, as she's used the phone more, is that when the screen is unfolded completely flat, the entire screen becomes unresponsive, not just those buttons at bottom. Folding it up slightly restores its responsiveness. This is somewhat annoying, but seems to be the way it works. Not sure if it's normal or not.

I don't think that's consider to be normal for the screen to be completely open and it doesn't respond. Might have to check with Samsung for warranty repair.

Thanks. Also crud. It's a big process for her to set this thing up, which is why a factory reset was not appealing. She may need to take it to the Verizon store and see what they say.

Well, wrong again. :-\ Or rather, right the first time. It isn't the whole screen that becomes unresponsive after all, just the Recent, Home, and Back buttons. But it seems to happen pretty consistently when the device is opened full-flat. It sounds like a hardware issue to me, something with the wiring in that area of the screen; but that's just my uninformed opinion.
