New galaxy watch 4 unable to setup

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and I require some help with a newish Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 not connecting properly to my phone.
My phone is an Umidigi S5 pro on android 10.
The galaxy watch 4 is SM-R865F.
I have installed
Galaxy Wearable app
Galaxy Watch 4 plugin
Samsung Accessory Service

On initial startup of watch I had to choose language and region.
When I start the wearable app it lists watch in devices.
I click on watch in list and I get the pair and connect pop-up with pin number.
The same pin number is displayed on watch and I press connect option the pop-up window goes and the wearable app is back to the device list with watch still being shown in this list.
The watch displays check phone to continue with setup.
Please help

Hi, thanks for welcome and replies so far.

Umidigi is a cheaper brand of rugged style phone, all other Bluetooth items I have connect ok to phone

I've spoken with Samsung technical support and they've started as phone is a Chinese brand and watch was purchased outside Chinese market the phone isn't compatible with watch?

I'm gutted I had no idea this would be an issue.
No sure how I can prove it as I only have an android tablet which I can't install wearable app on and a windows 10 laptop.
