My phone just pinged saying there's a (minor) update for Gingerbread 2.3. I have no power at my house and can't update yet but thought I've look for the lots-o-posts and see none. 4.53.651.1 Is what out calls itself

I just installed the update, not sure what it fixes or makes better yet, but one thing it didn't do was take away root access. I still show s-off after update

You're right, it doesn't - nor wouldn't whack S-OFF ... It does however whack root ... the loop/hoops you'll have to do to get root back is 1) reinstall a custom recovery; 2) flash root package. After that, it's all good.

Wait, what, I haven't updated because I'm rooted on stock HTC gingerbread. So will this updated remove my root access or not? If so is their a rooted update available yet? That's why I have been waiting it out.

I've rooted the stock ROM in the past ... I'm not using a tool to grant me root other than ChainsDD Superuser. The way I got there was to:
  1. get my device into an S-OFF mode (I used the Revoked method long ago)
  2. apply a custom recovery (I used Clockwork MOD)
  3. flash Superuser

If you don't want to do that, then yes ... Wait ...
