New Google Asst vs Google Search

I have received this update but I have a question.

Before the update I could press the center (circle) softkey on my 6p and I got the Google Search app. Now I get the Asst asking me what I need.

How do I go back to the prior function?

Google Assistant will do the search for you, just ask as you would have with the previous functionality.

I have recently had surgery and cannot speak thus the reason I want the prior function back.
