i want to exchange my phone for light leakage that is getting worse. telesales told me they don't have any so i can't order it now. can i go to best buy, add a line and get a new evo and then cancel the new line and transfer the evo to my old line and then return the defective evo?

No, you can't just cancel a new line and keep the phone unless you plan on paying full price.

But in that case, you wouldn't need to add a line in the first place.

actually... its cheaper to do it Flyboy's way.

Buy a phone outright.. $450 plus tax... i belive its about $485.00

Buy from best buy and switch to your main number $200.00 plus $200.00 ETF.

You might as well just go to Best Buy and ask them. I went to best buy last week with my wifes phone (which was eligible for an upgrade) and had them upgrade her line, then transfer it to me (not currently eligible) and then reactivate her old phone. It worked beautifully, but neither Sprint nor Radio Shack would do the same.

Because its considered fraud.

Also by doing that you just reset your eligibility

I did the same thing with my daughters eligible line so that I could get an EVO on my line. Guess who's idea it was? Sprint's. They said the only thing I give up is the ability to return the phone during the 30 day trial.

You do not reset your eligibility... and its not fraud... shoot its done all the time. I've done it twice just recently.

Geez where do guys come up with this stuff. This is not fraud. I've done this quite a few times. On some carriers, yes it does reset your eligibility. Im not sure how Sprint works, but definitely not fraud.

Yeah...sprint is actually the one the processed the flip flop of lines. Best buy just activated the evo on my wifes line then they called sprint for the rest.

It is not fraud, however you wouldn't be able to return the defective phone at Best Buy since they match up the ESN, which wouldn't match the phone you were returning. You would end up just paying $400 as per AldousSnow's post. All the phones are tracked to the ESN from which they were purchased, so all you would really be doing is reseting your eligibility for no reason, and just end up paying full price for a second phone. My advice would be to wait and just deal with it, they are going to be bitchy about returning/exchanging phones so long as there is still a shortage. When they finally have a surplus, you can probably just complain to a Sprint store manager and get an exchange, or take it up directly with HTC.

I will just keep checking sprint then and have them mail me a new one hopefully this week. I could always just return this and activate my pre. Then go to best buy and just buy one at my discount can't I?

i called sprint yesterday, and they placed a backorder for me, and it shipped today, even though the website shows none in stock. not sure how that works, but it should be here tomorrow. too bad i will be gone for the next 7 days! oh well, use and abuse this one i guess and hope the new one doesn't have screen issues

service and repair stores are able to order the Evo for a DHRP exchange, completely different stock for repair than sales.
