Whats goin on guys? So I came from a Bold9650. I LOVE BB and I love my phone BUT hey, need new flavors in life, right? All my boys have droids (Evo's and X's) so its only natural I join the movement. lol. I will say, Ive tried jumping ships from BB to (insert phone) and I ALWAYS go back sooo Im a bit skeptical but I do see Android has ALOT to offer and I just might like it. Im a fast learner when it comes to mobile devices, etc. What are some things I'll need to download/add to my phone out the box? A few things that'll make or break my experience with this phone are these needs:

-Something comparable to Crunch SMS. something I will be able to write more than 160 characters for texting.
-FaceBook chat: Yea, i know...but im 23 and need to stay connected. lol. I was uing BeeJive and LOVED the program for my phone.
-Im sure there are a TON of Twitter clients but which is the best?
-Livestream via UStream? How is it?
-An accurate weather client.
-FREE turn-by-turn navigation? A friend of mine showed it to me on his incredible but I cant remember what he used.
-Are there any programs that allow you to have display icons for FB notifications/texts/email/twitter? Or do I need to open the clients up to refresh it?

I think thats it for now. I AM excited to play with this phone for myself. Hopefully this wont be like my other phone experiences and I stick to a new phone and OS.

Not sure exactly what Crunch SMS offers but the DInc allows you to write texts of any length and sends them as 160 character strings...no special app needed.

For weather, I found the native weather/clock widget pretty good unless you're looking for specific things like humidity, or a radar image, or something with a widget I think I'd try WeatherBug..I'm pretty sure I've seen it in the market, or you could just go online to Intellicast or whatever site you use for WX. The browser on the DInc is so much faster than the BB (I know I had a 9530 for a year) that you can get any weather info you want pretty quickly.

The native turn-by-turn nav works great. Its under "Nav" in your app drawer. Or you can look up what ever your looking for on google maps and there's an option to "navigate" to what your looking for, just tap it and your set, voice directions and all.

Can't speak for the other apps cause i dont facebook, or tweet...i'm just old like that i guess.

I have the evo so most if what you are asking for is covered by HTC sense. But I believe beautiful widgets will knock out some of what you are looking for. As for sms I am not sure, I used to have beyond 160 on my Tour but have not looked for anything since I switched to Android. The two biggest things that kept me on blackberry was the keyboard and push email. Now that I moved everything over to gmail that is no longer a issue and I am apart of the swype beta and I could not be happier. As far as my yahoo and msn emails one thing I can do with android that you cannot do with blackberry is pull the email. You know you have one waiting for you you can just hit refresh. No more fidgeting with service books when my email goes bonkers. (and it did regularly with blackberry) I will never look back. Oh I don't care what blackberry calls it, the 9650 was shipped originally with the tour name then recalled and changed to bold. So the 9650 will always be a Tour ;)

Welcome to android, hope you stay.

Oh I almost forgot, google maps already has a native navigator. Just look for the blue arrow in your app drawer. If you cannot find it at first open google maps pick a close by known address to you and hit the navigate button. That will create the icon for you if you don't have one yet.

^^thanks. lol. I like the Bold name. lol. It is way more efficient than the tour! lol. nevertheless, Im hoping to stay with Droid. I jumped to Apple wih the 3g and it just sucked after a couple months. lol. So hopefully, with all that there is for Android, it'll be enough to keep me here

OH! Another thing or two...what does it mean to be "rooted" or "the phone is locked and needs to be rooted"..ive bee reading alot of things with the word "rooted" in it. lol. what does that mean. Also, I was told i can use a gameboy emulator on here? true? Pokemon Blue is calling my name! lol

Another thing I forgot, I haven't booted my phone in over a week, been on the whole time. I could NEVER do that on any of my old blackberries. Not to mention what happens when you pay for an application that drains all of your memory! Leaky leaky days are over. I have not had those problems, my daily battery pulls are OVER! :)

Yeah its weird at first but youll love the lack of battery pulls

Check out HiFBook fir facebook chat...

coming to android from all the different devices and BB's ive owned- ill never look back. android damn near does everything and more, but its way more fun! the only thing it lacks is GSM capabilities (on VZW, which will be fixed soon next year anyways), and the security.

i can tell you based on my experience, that i am completely happy with my DInc, and that i wished i would have moved to an android platform sooner.

hope that helps, for what its worth.

Think of "rooting" as having Administrator access on your computer. Same concept. You can modify and install things your provider never intended you to do! ;)

Like others said, you don't need an app that combines sms so you can type 160+ characters in more than one text. A common app though is handcent sms which is more customizable and is quicker and allows popups.

For fbchat and updates and stuff, I hear bloo is really good for facebook (i've never actually tried it but seems like everyone loves it. Gives good notifications too i hear.

Weather apps - there's weatherbug for android too if you like it or weather channel or you can just use the stock htc sense one...but it's not that specific. Cool animations though when you unlock your phone.

Also, HTC sense has friendstream that integrates twitter and facebook into one which makes it easier to look at both if you want. Check it out, you might like it.

And in case you haven't seen it yet...

Got some good stuff in there if you're unfamiliar with the phone.

Chomp SMS is made by the same developer as Crunch SMS. Looks like Chomp is for Android devices while Crunch is for Blackberry.

As far as just checking the weather at a glance goes, HTC's built in Weather app is nice. However, I've found that The Weather Channel's app is indispensable for more detailed and accurate forecasts. You can see up to date weather maps, hourly and 10 day forecasts, and get alerts sent to your notification bar every time there's a severe weather alert in your area

you guys are all awesome. really. theres a lot to learn. more than i thought. lol. couple questions that came up today i wanted to ask:

-is it easy to port my contacts on to my phone when i switch from my BB to the incredible?
-ive read stuff on Sense UI but what makes this phone diff. than the X so far as this sense ui thing is concerned?
-my friend told me today about 'launcher'(?)..what is that about?
