Hello guys,
Just bought a new Motorola Photon 4G (miss my webOS Pre-). Just wanted to say hello to you all.

I like the phone in general.. just that some of the things are still bugging me like crazy.

  1. Why I have two separate email apps? Gmail and Email and Yahoo mail?
  2. No facebook notifications except new message & friend request?
  3. Battery is draining like anything. I have a nightsave mode but still!! may be I don't know somethings
  4. Why my Google Contact Groups are not showing up in my phone contacts?
  5. Even though this is a 4G phone and I am paying extra $10 for data, I see only about 0.4Mbps speed. What should I do?

Things I like about Photon --
  1. Nice screen
  2. Kick Stand
  3. Moto Speak (works really well with my Motorola T505)
  4. DLNA
  5. Android Apps
  6. Voice To Text input

Welcome to Android Central. Sorry you missed out on the official introduction back a day or two ago, things have been a bit busy lately..

I'm not a webOS user but in answer to a few of your questions...

4g usage being on the slow side....
1. Welcome to Sprint.. Cheaper rates over the competition giving you unlimited data but not as great of a 4g signal in many areas as the competition.... We all have are hopes up for a better experience with Sprint changing to LTE 4g start mid 2012

2. Battery drain. This is controlled best by using the android's own task killer to shut down apps & processes. Stay away from 3rd party task killers as they do more harm than good despite what many will say... Another area to look at is anything you have syncing or polling the net for updates. FB, Twitter, Google +, emails... The more frequently its polling the more juice its eating.... Poor signals does play a big factor too, if your device is jumping between 3g/4g and loosing & gaining signal often its hitting you device's battery hard, although I hear the radios in Moto products are very good.
You could also consider once your more comfortable with Android, rooting your device and then you can have better control over bloatware and stuff you don't need eating up your resources. Rooting also gives you the option of flashing custom kernels and ROMs that have much better battery management.

3. Your email apps.. If your talking about what came on the device... Just the usual bloatware like when you buy a computer.... Comes with multiple browsers, etc.. laying around... You could always combine you emails to all come through GMail or a 3rd party email application like K-9 or something.

Those are some of the stuff I'm familiar with in your questions, the others maybe some others can chime in and help out.

@Paul627g, Thank you for your detailed reply. I already rooted the phone. I guess it was quite easy too.

Will keep looking into optimizing the phone for my need.
