New "Network Type" after 4G sim inserted

Before I had the 3G sim that the reps put in upon purchase of my phone. Went back to get the 4G sim & noticed a change under the network settings. With the 3G sim in, it would mostly display HSDPA but since the 4G inserted, it now displays UMTS most of the time.

Don't know the difference. When I look up UMTS it says its the HSPA+/HSDPA/HSUPA family of frequencies.

Hmm...had my 3G sim in for about a week & never saw it once. Now its all it displays.

Mine has an H + above a check mark...whatever that means. I'm also in constant contact with wifi - home and in the office.

Yeah mine always turns on a checkmark when I connect to my WiFi at home. Speedtest connected to my Verizon router at home nets me 19mbps/6mps. Imagine if we could get that with just a phone signal, now thats true 4G.

Haven't rooted my phone yet & it has always displayed H+ on the status bar, old sim & new sim. Only difference I've noticed is in the Network Settings under Network Setting....ok now it says HSDPA. Must just be the signal strength its picking up indoors, cycles back & forth. Just wonder which is stronger, HSDPA or UTMS...

LOL Mike, weren't you on Droidforums.net contemplating whether or not to get an Inspire? I think I was trying to prod you into the decision...looks like you went for it.

Glad you did? How you like it compared to the X? I was going to get the X but chose this one. Never really played with the X much.

Had H+ with 3G Sim and same with the "new sim" as well no differences in speed or service - I've always had HSDPA never UTMS

UMTS is the predecessor of HSDPA and therefore slower, so you don't want that.
