Hello.

I just sold my Nokia 920 and got a Nexus 4. I have two questions for the aware:

1) All of my contacts had to be imported in from my microsoft.live account. How do I add them all to my Google account )so that next time I get another android phone I can just have them imported in automatically)?

2) How do software updates work? Automatically or do I have to do something.

thnx in advance.

1. Import your microsoft contact to gmail contacts using your computer. The next time you enter your gmail account on a android phone they will sync.

2. Software updates roll out automatically. Some people get impatient and manually update but they will hit your phone eventually within a week of so of release at the most.
If you root & install another ROM or a custom recovery, you will probably not get the OTA update automatically.

Just to add to this, when the update is available it will show as a notification in the top bar. Click on it to install the update. The phone will not update the software without your permission.

When on your computer, go to gmail and then settings (upper right hand corner) There should be a place to import your contacts from various other sites. I did mine from yahoo many years ago.

You will need to determine how to export your contacts from I'm guessing... Hotmail?... Gmail supports two formats: CSV (Comma Separated Values) and vCard.

OP when I first switched to Android I exported my contacts to the csv format then uploaded to gmail. It went very smoothly. IF you haven't done that already I'd recommended it. That way you have a file you can always use as a back up.....just in case.

If your just doing your email contacts, I recommend backing your mobile contacts to gmail. I recommend this to anyone with a new phone, as it doesn't require a new sim or to be transferred phone to phone all the time to be there. Its also so much easier if someone messages you their number online e.g facebook and just copying it into a new contact on the pc and seeing it on your mobile.
