First time posted, long time reader. Everyone keeps talking about this new update and then I hear that Samsung postponed this update. Is everyone just rooting their phones to get the update? I don't want to root my phone I just want to know if non-rooted phones are getting the update yet.

So then they are getting sent out now OTA to non rooted phones? Will it just pop up or do I have to keep searching for new firmware update?

I'm rooted too. No roms or kernal, yet and haven't received the update either. From the downloads getting slower now I don't know if I want it at all. I think I'm getting better than the norm in battery life so it makes me leary. I know I just want to delete the samsung hub for sure!

Update is rolling out to everyone. I got mine yesterday morning and it did immediately fixed the 150kb upload cap improves download speeds as well. Does anyone know what else this update does?

to the OP...you do not have to root your phone to manually apply the update. There is:a link on one of these threads to download the update.zip. you then save it to your SD card. Just don't put it in a folder. Turn the phone off and then hold camera, volume down and power button. Let go when u see phone turning on and it will be in recovery mode. Then scroll down using volume button to "apply update.zip" choose it by hitting the home button. That's all. Just wait til phone reboo s.

No root required. Actually, its probably preferred, just in case you deleted something from the phone after rooting that would prevent the update from installing.

I can't express enough how easy it is to apply. I did it to two phones in less than five minutes.

haha why would samsung release an update that only applies to rooted phones? think about it ppl!

Ahhh geez here come the android samsung experts who tell us how easy it is to apply and then some booger guy telling us about how samsung rolls out their updates, can we just close the thread?

no think about it.. rooting a phone is not manufacturer supported activity.. why would a manufacture roll out an update that only works for a rooted phone but not on a non-rooted phone?

this has nothing to do with android experience.. just common logic

They didnt roll out the update, they stopped because of issues with distribution from google. But i got it installed finally...I was downloading it on my work pc then emailing it to myself to get it on my phone and the zip firl was actually smaller than original. instead i decided to download the file from my phone browser itself (duh) and now i got it upgraded.

I am far from an android Samsung expert. I just read and do a little research and only try the things that aren't too involved. If you would follow the SIMPLE instructions, you actually might be able to do it. That is if you still have not received the update ota.

Your information about that is several days out of date. It is true that the update, scheduled to start rolling out on Thrusday 9/30, was delayed because of those issues with Google -- but only until midday Friday, 10/1. Since then, the rollout has proceeded with no apparent interruption. By design, it does take several days to complete deployment to everyone, as Sprint's announcement said at the outset.
