New PDANET+ still not working on MaxxHD and Verizon, help?

I updated to the latest version of PDANET+ yesterday (and the latest FoxFi as instructed by the Pdanet help section) and still cannot get the hotspot to work on my RazrMaxxHD. In other threads users are reporting that it is working. When I try to activate the hotspot feature my subscription status is checked and I am instructed to call Verizon if I want to subscribe. I just say OK, and the app goes on to step 2 of trying to activate the hotspot. It finally gives up with the error message, "Fail to activate hotspot: Fail to start WiFI mode, please try again."

Do any of you users who have gotten this to work have any idea what might be the problem I am having? I've tried several times, I've rebooted the phone, renamed the hotspot, all to no avail.
Thanks.

sorry i probably won't be much help, but i've been wanting to try PDANET+, haven't looked too much into it though. i was just wondering if your phone is rooted and if that would make a difference?

Thanks. No, my phone is stock. It is not supposed to require rooting and the users who have said it is working for them have not mentioned being rooted. Hopefully others will reply.

In any event, it is still a great app. I am having no trouble with the USB or Bluetooth modes, and the new "WiFi share" option actually allows me to turn my laptop into a hotspot while tethering through USB or Bluetooth. While that is not as convenient as a direct hotspot on the phone, it is a pretty nice workaround. It's just less convenient, especially for my wife who would like to be able to sign in to the hotspot on her Ipad while I'm driving and she is a passenger. It's really not practicable to set up the laptop in the car. If we do that she might as well just use the laptop instead of the Ipad while traveling down the road.

It seems to be working fine for me. I just updated to JB 4.1.2 tonight after I updated to the latest PdaNet+ and FoxFi earlier today, and I was able to enable the WiFi hotspot and connect to it.

Does your FoxFi report version 2.12.3 or is it some earlier version? The first time I started it after the update, it went through some process of creating a security certificate and enabling vpn mode. Plus it required that I enable pattern screen unlock. It then rebooted and has been working fine ever since. If you didn't see any of those steps, then maybe the update to the latest version didn't complete successfully. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling the apps.

My Foxfi is version 2.12.3; however, I am still on JB 4.1.1. Did you try running FoxFi at all on that, or just on 4.1.2? Maybe that is what is causing my problem. I probably need to go ahead and to the JB update and see what happens, unless someone else already knows the answer.

I had FoxFi working on 4.1.1 before I updated to 4.1.2.

Do you receive the "checking subscription status" messages as the Hotspot is starting up? Are you on Verizon?
Thanks,
BV

Yes to both. Prior to the latest update I would also get the message to call Verizon to subscribe.

I'm not sure what else to try. For what it's worth, I think the first time I started up the new version, I used the PdaNet+ interface to launch FoxFi rather than starting the app directly. I doubt that would make a difference, though.

Ok; thanks for the info. I sent a tech support request a couple days ago to see if the developer could help. Hopefully I'll receive some information from them. If I stumble upon a cure in the meantime, I'll post it here.

It looks like there's a new update today which specifically mentions fixing issues with some DROID RAZR MAXX HD phones, so hopefully you'll have better luck with that.

Yes, I was really hopeful when I saw that update last night but mine still won't work even after the update. I think I'll uninstall, reboot and reinstall and see what happens. Still hoping that I'll hear something direct from the developer.

HOORAY!! It is now working after I went ahead and upgraded to JB 4.1.2. If it continues to work, great! I'll gladly be upgrading to the full version.

Has anybody tried it with the mid-July JB update to confirm that it still works?

I have not yet let my phone do the update. I'm on Verizon and this would be to version 9.18.79. I'm reluctant to install the update until I can confirm that the Pda/Foxfi hotspot will still work. The last time I did an OS update, it broke the hotspot. I hope someone gives a report.

I was never able to get wifi tethering (wifi tether, foxfi, etc) working on my phone. Even rooted and unlocked. The only way I could get internet on my netbook was to use Easy Tether Pro. And FWIW I have only tethered 5 times. :-) I am on the latest update and it still works.

FoxFi+ works great on my RAZR HD with everything stock, but I haven't updated to 9.18.79 yet for fear that it will stop working. Unlimited tethering is too good to lose. Would love to hear if somebody has it working.

After finding a a reference on another forum which seemed to indicate FoxFi would continue working after the update, I went ahead and updated to 9.18.79 last night. I can report that FoxFi is still working fine!

You're the man!! Now I need to get the nerve to try it on my phone. Have you also upgraded to the latest Foxfi in the Play Store? My version is 2.12, but 2.13 is in the Play Store and wanting to update. It appears to be an update that affects only the S4 phone.

I seem to be on FoxFi 2.13.1

Good luck if you decide to go ahead with the update. Mine went fine except that after the Droid with the tummyache disappeared, it didn't restart automatically. I let it sit for 15 minutes or so and found that it was very hot to the touch. I then had to do a force reboot to get it started again, but now it seems to be fine and running the new version.
