New phone and new provider. When to port?

My new Z Flip 3 is arriving tomorrow! My new SIMs from T-Mobile are also arriving tomorrow. I switched from Consumer Cellular to T-Mobile.

My question is which should I do first? Port my number or set up my new phone? I'm thinking I should port first and make sure everything is working on my old phone first. Then if everything is okay then put the new SIM in my new phone. Any comments or recommendations?

I guess I could always setup my new phone with the new T-Mobile SIM and number and use that temporally. And still have the old SIM in the old phone. I have literally two service providers now until the port is complete. What would you do?

When I worked for Verizon we would do the number port in the system and stick the new SIM into the new phone to power it on and deal with activation/set up. We never activated the old phone on Verizon first or set the new phone up before it had the SIM card in it.

Personally I would stick the new SIM in the new phone and handle set up at that time. Honestly it probably won't matter what order you do it in since both phones work on both networks.

From Verizon, I activated the new Flip 3, which has the 5g, with that being done that sim will also support 4g so I can just swap out the sim card to an older Verizon phone ( S10E) without 5g and should work. I know mine was a different situation but just wanted to put it out there.

I would definitely use on new phone...sometimes on ports you might be using both phones till it fully kicks over.. I'm had that happen to me...

IMO, I'd start the port process ASAP. Get everything set up with your new carrier, then worry about setting up your new z flip 3.

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions! As it turns out the SIM's are coming today and now the phone is tomorrow instead of today. So it looks like I will do the port first. I just hope it happens quickly, like in an hour or less.

Just did the port. Only took about a half an hour to complete. I am up and running on my new carrier. Now my Flip 3 is coming tomorrow and I can devote all of my attention to that! I am so excited to get it. I hope it comes early in the day so that I have time to set it up before evening when I have a meeting and want to take the new phone.

That's so great that you got the port at set up and that your new phone arrives tomorrow! Let us know when you get your Flip 3 and how you are liking it! Hopefully you have it in time for your meeting!
