new phone - how do I know if I have a custom ROM?

Hey guys, I picked up an Inspire the other day off craigslist. I was familiarizing myself with the phone, going thru some of the settings, and the first thing that threw me was that the phone was listed as a Desire HD. I'm not exactly sure what I should see on a "normal" phone in the kernal and baseband info screens. There's also an app called SuperUser, which I could update, but I can't uninstall. While in the web browser tonite, I was noticing some strange URL's that I certainly hadn't been to.

While we completed the deal/sale, the seller reset the phone (power button, vol down - something like that - went into some reset menu) and I went thru the new phone setup. I'm just wondering if I have any concerns here. I did also install AVG tonite and it gives me a warning that the phone is running in privileged mode. I don't have any problems with running a rooted ROM (although I know nothing about them) - I just wanted to make sure I'm safe, that's all.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/comments, etc.

Sounds like you are rooted. You can install an app from the market, Root Check, if you want to confirm it.

Thanks, I checked out the app and it does get to root. Interesting. I assume, if everything is running ok for the most part, I shouldn't have any future issues? I did do a litte reading and see that updates frm AT&T and HTC are probably disabled, so if any major OS updates come, am I going to have to either figure out how to re-root or move back to the stock ROM?

Are the old URL's in the browser history anything to worry about? I would have thought they would have been wiped out. Do you think I'd be safe to do a Factory Reset from within the settings menu?

Thanks again.

Rooted you need to reflash a new ROM to get any updates (once you get them, install via Clockwork Rom Manager). The custom ROM makers seem pretty good about updating, that last update was in August.
You could unroot and go back to stock, but it is a hassle. You could go to the AT&T store to see what a stock phone is like, to see what you are missing.
I don't think URLs are an issue, you can clear them. I don't know what a factory reset does to a rooted phone, maybe you shouldn't do that.
