new photon owner..no issues so far

got my photon yesterday evening, called and activated and so far is has been nothing but excellent...fortunately i got my phone the same day they sent the update out, but even before i updated it was working very well...

just though i'd post my initial thoughts on this, being as this forum is filled with people who have had issues with their photons...all the complaints and issues that are on here almost steered me away from this phone...so for anyone out there who is having doubts about this phone, just wanted to let you know there are plenty of photons out there that are working flawlessly.

Thanks for your post. I went into Best Buy after work yesterday and purchased the Photon. They only had two left in stock. I sold them back my Samsung Epic. I will never own another Samsung phone.
I was prompted to do the update before I left Best Buy.
I found the set-up to be easy and I have had no issues at all with the phone.

same thing here! done with samsung- but missing a couple of the features of my epic that i'm trying to get on the photon. hate the unlock screen on this thing - can't get that to change though.

can't figure out how to turn off 3g data.

and miss the pull down widgets from epics launcher.

i switched to launcherpro on this phone and it's better than the stock launcher.

I as well came from a Samsung...the entry level Samsung Transform...WOW that this is a real piece of s**t compared to this phone...im very happy with my purchase

I came from Blackberry, which has very few apps compared to Android. I have quickly learn, never say never with Android because there's always "an app for that". I don't know what the Epic lock screen looked like, but here are two pretty good lock screen apps...

what dont you like about it? i personally didnt like how you still have to do the default slide lock even when you have the pattern lock on...i made it better by adjusting the screen lock timer...i have mine set for 10 minutes...i use my phone alot while sitting at my desk at work, so i guess its acceptable that if i dont use it for 10 minutes i'll have to do both, its better than having to do both everytime the screen is turned off

The only way I have found so far to shut off the 3g is to turn on Airplane Mode.
I used the Go Launcher on the Epic... I may try it on the Photon.
The Photon is lightning quick... so much faster in every way compared to the Epic.
No looking back for me!

Got mine yesterday as well. No issues so far. Coming from a palm pre so this phone is unfintely better. I'm definetly liking the app selection, so much more than webos. I also applied the update as soon as I got out activated. Awesome phone!

I don't like that I have to press the button on the top of the phone to wake it up - should be able to manipulate the configuration to allow the volume keys to wake up the phone.

I downloaded widgetlocker and am still having a hard time getting the right screen unlock to work. I'm glad i don't have to enter in my pin number every time the screen wakes up though - that is a relief, but after installed widget locker and adding the iphone slider unlock (which doesn't vibrate) i can't get rid of the other unlock option at the bottom....

I also miss the easy pull down notification bar that let me toggle certain things on and off.

To turn off 3G you need to go into settings->battery & data manager->data delivery. In there you will be able to turn it off. Unlike the evo that has a widget for this, which I miss alot, I haven't had to do this cuz the phones battery lasts forever compared to my og evo. I've found the battery to last a few hours longer than the evo, the call volume and clarity is incredible compared to the evo. Hopefully the new MR update fixes the few issues I had with the phone, so far so good after update. I just wish the intuitive keyboard was as good as the evo as far as word detection. I haven't used swype yet as it seems somewhat tricky, oh well. Other than that I love the phone. MOTOBLUR or whatever they call it isn't that bad but htc sense was better.

A couple of other things I love about the Photon... the case that I used for the Epic works perfectly for the Photon, and my Epic wall charger and car charger both power up the Photon!
