new razr maxx user with mobile hotspot problems

I'm new to this forum. I upgraded to a Verizon Razr Maxx in June and updated the OS to ICS. I've been having problems using the mobile hotspot feature for a couple weeks. Verizons support had me change the hotspot password and that helped for a day or so. I also can do a soft reset and that helps for a while but the problem comes back. When I am having problems, connecting with my laptop through the hotspot slows to a crawl on a 4G connection. Data connection on the phone seems to be okay all the time.
