New Recovery options in 6.0?

Just wiped my cache partition this morning and I noticed what I think are new options to the recovery menu: "install update from ADB," and "install update from SD card."

Does this mean if I copy the latest factory image to a thumb drive and attach it via OTG cable, I can update without waiting for OTA?

Someone is free to correct me if I'm wrong but in order to use the Google Factory Images you still have to have an unlocked bootloader. The options you are seeing in the stock recovery are used if you get the OTA package file that someone has downloaded and pulled from the device and made available for you to download and manually install.
