New S3, a couple questions (Txt Msgs on Lock Screen, Invocation of Listening Mode)

My wife just moved from iPhone4 to a Galaxy S3.

I'm trying to find her an app that will show new text messages on the lock screen, like iOS does. Not a scroll in the status bar, but a two line preview in the middle. Any recommendations? I searched for this, but the results are mixed.

I'm also looking for a way to invoke "listening mode" with one touch (sorry, not sure what it's called). On my (old) Samsung Droid Charge, unlock, then hold the Search button for three seconds, and it switches to "listening" mode, and I can invoke navigation, send a text/email, etc. "Navigate to Home Depot", or "Text Sally, I'll be there in fifteen minutes".

How can I alter her phone to be able to do this with one touch?

Lots of apps come up, I looked at the first dozen or so, it looks like they are all just static replicas of the iPhone lock screen, they don't display alerts.

Maybe I'm not finding the correct one?

There are a ton of iOS lock apps, but they are all static. None can have alerts. I downloaded NiLS, and it complains that I don't have Android 4.2, but I can use it on a home page (but not the lock screen).

Maybe I need to root and install a 4.2 ROM? Not even sure if they're stable?

Hold down the menu button to bring up Google Now/Search and then simply say "Google". From there you can ask it to do anything you need it to do.
