alright so i finally did it and i rooted my phone, well it just became so easy thanks to that new auto method i just couldnt resist

so any ways a few questions, i did a backup of my phone before i flashed the your mom rom, if i were to recover that backup would my phone be back to its stock gb way of being?

and say i wanted to undo all which i have done (which atm i do not, but want the know how) how would i go about that?

sorry for possibly the most nooby and basic answers but im new and am trying to learn

also final thing, i was looking in the titanium app and noticed that it says that i have {system rom: 166 mb (16.2 mb free)} is that normal?
i rooted like how the zvh sticky says, popped in the your mom rom and installed it

thanks

Welcome, and glad you decided to join our community. There is a wealth of knowledge here so make sure to look around and as you just did, don't be afraid to ask questions no matter how noobish they may seem. Everyone here is glad to help.

First off, good job on making a backup of the stock GB setup. Most users don't and some regret it later. Yes, if you restore that backup in recovery, you will return to the complete stock GB rom but you will still have root. If you wanted to remove root and your custom recovery completely, you would restore that backup you made and then you can use this the info in this thread to revert back. Option B in the command prompt is what you would want to do.

And yes, what titanium backup is showing is normal. That is the portion of the phone that houses the ROM files and system files as well.

Happy flashing!!

wow thank you so much, you squandered any fears i had remaining as i thought i was doing/did something wrong.

that xionia (sp?) was throwing me up for a trick as i didnt realize install from zip equaled flash haha

but again thanks for the help now i will be go enjoying my new phone, definitely going to be sticking around here :)

I can see how that one would get ya. If you were to root manually, in most methods, you would have actually used a piece of software called "flash_image" as part of the process to install some bits. This software is now built into the Xionia custom recovery.

And yes, welcome! Be forewarned that this tweaking and modding stuff is fun and can get to be time consuming. Ooh! Look what I maded it did!
Still trying to find a chick who is impressed by my homescreen... :D

hey guys i actually some more questions haha, regarding my backups, i found them in my sd card under clockworkmod, and i have two in there, my question is, would renaming them do any harm to the recovery process?

because they show up as the date i did it on and would rather change the name.

also no harm in making copies of them on my computer for just in case right?
thanks for the help guys

and epidenimus you are so right on that just wanna keep on going but i am such a whimp for fear of a brick haha

it wont brick your phone but it will stop you from restoring the one you renamed but all u have to do to fix that is rename it back to what it was before

U can rename it, just with no spaces. And I usually start my custom name after the date.

Example: 2011-11-21.mom

but it dont let you restore it after that

Yes it does, I use it all the time. I have to rename all my backups because of the different builds I am testing. That one I gave an example of, is a current one I have and have used now several times.

No harm at all. It's good to have a couple recent and clean nandroids stored somewhere. It also gets them off your limited SD card storage.

I renamed my rooted stock nandroid to stock_2011.... hoping not to have to use it again. One thing that I have started doing in the clockwork file is I have a master text file with a line or two for each backup with the name and what features it has. You can do this on the your SD card as well as in your external storage area.

There are things that can hose things up, for sure. But if you took the time to read, are at this point and know to make a backup before applying a mod... a full brick is less likely. Just do your backups as you have been, don't mess with the Recovery file system and don't install ROM Manager and you should be golden. Fear the brick, that's why we have nandroids!
