I currently have a HTC Arrive on sprint and I really do love WP7 but Sprint just gave me an early upgrade. Im thinking about moving to android since Sprint doesnt seem to have much interest in bringing on any new Windows Phones.

Even though I doubt LTE will be coming to my area anytime soon I still feel like I want an LTE phone just in case. I am intrigued by the LG Viper (because of price) but Ive kind of heard bad things about mid range Android phones (my brother always complains about his HTC Incredible lagging and what not)

Is the LG Viper worth anything or should I go with something like the Samsung Galaxy S II? In a perfect world Id like the Photon Q but Im on a budget.

I don't know much about the viper. But what I can say is it is true with android phones that you get what you pay for majority of the time. I've seen too many people try Android and blame it for being horrible and going to apple simply because they skimped on their phone and got something really crappy. I know getting the top of the line phone is sometimes hard. But if you can manage it, its well worth it.

Unless you've read some positive reviews on that phone either here or on some of the other tech sites I would stay away from it. There's no guarantee that it will be a reliable phone for the next 2 years or eligible for the next OS update.

If you're going to upgrade to another phone and want Android your best bet is to take a long hard look at either the Samsung Galaxy SIII or the HTC Evo 4G LTE. Those are the two studs in Sprints stable as of now.

First, how did you manage to get Sprint to give you an early upgrade???

Second, my wife has the Viper, pre-ordered it before it came out. She is by no means a power user but she is happy with it. Only complaint is the battery life but there are some posts here that say the battery is a known issue and Sprint will replace it if you ask. I have yet to try.

Third, check out this thread, it lists the cities where Sprint is deploying LTE... http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint/174154-sprint-lte-deployment-list.html

Hah...and yet again, Phoenix is on their list of redheaded stepchildren that MIGHT get deployment. But judging by what happened with WiMAX, I'm not holding my breath. I'm leaving Sprint (after 10 years of loyalty) because of this. I don't necessarily NEED LTE, but I'm dying for something faster than the glorified dialup Sprint likes to call 3G.

I have no idea why but sprint sent me a mailer the other day for an early upgrade, my two year contract ends in may or June, so im a full 7 or 8 months early. The only catch is the early upgrade expires Sept. 26th. The only thing i can think of is if they are trying to get people off of windows phone or they want me to jump on the iPhone 5 (not sure if it will be available by Sept 26th though). I really have no interest in the iPhone though. Like i said previously i love my windows phone its just disappointing sprint has little interest in the platform. I think I'll just wait a little longer and see if there is a price drop on one of the higher end phones or if something new comes along between now and then.

It looks like aside from some battery issues most people on this site are pretty happy with the LG viper. Im intrigued by it because of the price and I like that it doesn't have the oversized screen that most phones seem to have now.

The problem is the screen also has lower resolution than the "top shelf" phones. I am on the Nexus S 4G which is a similar size & screen resolution. I love the size of the phone, but small text looks like garbage. I would not lock in a 2 year contract on a device without high pixel density. That would be Evo LTE, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Nexus or iPhone. Unfortunately the Android options are all huge, and it doesn't seem like that will change anytime soon.

Yeah, I'd too love to see an Android device with a screen at 4" max with high pixel density (like 720x1280). But those don't exist. I have small hands, and phones like the S III are too cumbersome to operate single-handed. The GNex isn't horrible, though.

And there's no denying that the iPhone 4/4S is currently the best balance between screen size and pixel density. I wish the Android manufacturers would get over the "bigger is better" approach on top-end devices.

There is a variation of the s2 with a smaller screen coming out soon, I think its called the s2 plus or something, not sure if sprint is getting it though. But there are several mid tier phones coming out soon. Nokia just announced some windows phones but no date or carrier info, also Samsung announced their windows 8 phone but no info really. A lot should be out by the end of the year including the note 2 and the Nexus 2. I have had the S2 since the day it came out, and its still better than most phones out besides pretty much the brand new stuff on lte.
