New to Android Questions

Okay I just got my first Android phone the other week and have a few questions. I am coming from a BB Tour so please bear with me. What is the difference between unlocking bootloaders and rooting the phone? Unlocking means gaining better control of my phone? and rooting is?? I got this phone because I love tinkering with things and being able to understand how and why things work. If I could get pointed in the right direction, I would be very grateful. Thanks

Check around AC's articles and read some of the stickies in the Rooting/hacks section here, you'll find a lot of info. Came from a BB Tour myself to my first android phone, the bionic, in september, now I've got the Nexus and have become very knowledgable about how to do things and help out if you need. You definitely picked the right phone if you are a tinkerer and like to experiment to gain control and have fun.
