Have to be quick here, have more inquiries later.

I am trying out Photon/Android setup. Thanks to a forum member who'd used both the Photon and an iphone in my city I had enough info to check the Photon first over IOS/i4S. I have another week to keep or return it.

It's an impressive gadget, far ahead of the antique Treo/PalmOS I was using previously. It's also got a fair amount of learning curve to make good use out of it.

3.1 questions, if anyone can spare a few min.
Starting with zero modern phone OS knowledge, where's the best place to invest 2-3 hours to get a clue?

Immediate goals:
i) Transfer contacts, memos, and calendar entries from several overlapping sources and automatically filter out duplicates. Hopefully I don't have to learn a programming language to do that sort of thing, but if I have to learn, say, a basic scripting language to avoid wasting time over and over on manual info management that's fine.
ii) Know what it can do in terms of productivity and get those items running smootly. I want to use the phone to get stuff done, not to fiddle with it. That's a bit open ended - I'm aware of, say, Google Voice but not all the things one can do with it. I'm sure there are clever things this thing can do which I haven't thought of. So where can I look for an overview? Right now I have no need for custom ROMs etc, I'll do that only when a clear need arises.
iii) Cloud sync, best way to do that. Syncing to multiple PCs as with the antique phone is a lose, how can I sync this _and_ whaver other devices to a *reliable* cloud service?

The .1 is an aggravating issue which probably has a simple fix.
How do I stop the thing from fighting against me when I want to enter text? Swype is very clever, but when I need to edit something both Swype and the standard kb resist editing what went into the text box. Never had that issue with the Treo - that was intuitive, and has the equivalent of cursor keys or one can use a stylus.

So far, trying to enter text is aggravating. I had to spend several minutes responding to a txt, that's 15 seconds on the Treo. Swype creates text quickly, the problem is editing.
I don't see where the cursor movement control is: finger contact does 3 or 4 different things depending on how the OS misinterprets what I'm doing, but it almost never moves the cursor to where I need it. It will pop a menu of choices to do many things I don't need at that moment. The one thing it won't do is let me edit a text entry, it just fights. I'd seen this issue in the store and figured it would resolve itself in 20 minutes of familiarization. Not. I'm guessing there is a very simple workaround for this but no sign of it so far.

Welcome to Android Central! Once you see how you can personalize your Photon, you will be amazed.

See the Apple User's Guide to Android and the 37 Features Still Missing From the iPhone 4S for a list of features that the iPhone 5 was supposed to get but we got the 4S instead.

Unless your wear a size Small or XS glove, the iPhone can be a challenge to type on. The Photon is for Regular size hands. See the Sizing Chart: What is the Right Size Phone?

Click the Getting Started button at the top of any page for help with everything.

It will tell you how to Transfer contacts and calendar entries from several overlapping sources and automatically filter out duplicates automatically.

iii) Cloud sync, best way to do that.
See the Getting Started section on Applications for Cloud storage at the bottom of the section. Google will sync contacts, calendar, etc. to the could automatically. Dropbox will give you 2.25GB free with that link and is perfect for syncing files. Google Docs is perfect for collaboration.

How do I stop the thing from fighting against me when I want to enter text?
You need a keyboard with predictive text and arrow key options like SwiftKey. See the Getting Started section on Keyboards.
