Im getting the G2 or Mytouch 4g next week and ive been browsing these forms for a while looking at the different launchers, wallpapers, widgets, stuff like that (i guess making the phone however you want it) and i was wondering if you have to root the phone to do this? I know the G2 hasnt been completely rooted yet and idk about the Mytouch yet. I wanna know so i stay away from them and go to the Vibrant.

Nope, there's absolutely no need to root the phone to run a different launcher, change wallpapers or anything like that. :) The exceptions are apps that directly change the way the hardware or the Android core operate, like overclocking apps (SetCPU) and the likes. Some phones (all the HTC Sense ones, for example) also cannot connect a bluetooth controller for games and such. Not sure why.

is there a way to return it to the standard displays? like if i get tired of it, can i put it back to how it was when i first got the phone or am i stuck?

You can always restore the stock launcher if you get sick of the one that you use. You can uninstall it or you can clear the defaults in Settings > Applications > choose Launcher & clear defaults. This will return your phone to the stock launcher.

@FlashmanNTx Look in a specific device forum or in the Hacking section for a complete break down of what rooting means and the process to do so. They are stickied at the top of the thread.
