hello all,
I'm a LONGTIME smartphone user, and I've had my android for almost a year. My first smartphone was a Kyocera QCP 6035 w a mono screen w Palm OS which I got around 2000-2001. How do I remember exactly which Kyocera it was? I'm a geek for keeping records. Download Evernote, it's one app every smartphone needs the have, and that's what I use for keeping notes on android.
After the Kyocera I moved to a Treo and found my soulmate. I still miss my Treo and, except for the small screen, would leap at any opportunity to use one again. I was forced to "upgrade" to android when my Treo died. I put the word "upgrade" in quotes b/c I really don't think my android is an upgrade from what I had been used to on my Treo. I watched Obama's inauguration on my Treo, listened to music, played games I downloaded for free, etc. So smartphones are nothing new to me.
So, now I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Epic 4G, which I call my "stupidphone" and I really hate the thing. I am a power user and I'm so sick of the poor battery life and that I have to keep soft rebooting my phone to hear the phone ring, hear a voice mail message, or watch a video. And now, ever since I upgraded my phone's OS on Nov 17, the gmail app no longer updates my emails. And, no, OF COURSE I have not disabled my synch for the 10+ email addy's I used to be able to read on the thing; and yes, OF COURSE I have tried copious times to manually synch it up. It just won't. I'm reluctant to uninstall the gmail app and re-install b/c I have so many email accounts tied up on it, it would be a real pain. And yes, OF COURSE all my apps are backed up. But having your apps backed up on android doesn't mean you can hard reboot your phone and re-install everything easily. My phone is maxed out and it will take me forever to hard reboot and re-install all the apps. I've moved all of the apps I can onto my card, but there are still many that only install on the internal memory.
Don't get me wrong, the Samsung Galaxy Epic 4G is a great handheld computer for lots of things, it just really sucks as a phone. Games are certainly better on the android as opposed to the Treo. I hate that it feels like it takes forever for the phone to actually retrieve a phone # & make a call. I hate that my addressbook cannot synch up with my notes & memos and that I have to get other apps that do not work together for those purposes, unlike the most amazing app Agendus which was one app for my Treo that I actually paid for.... and one reason why I highly suggest everyone download Evernote. I've been using my smartphone for just about everything for a long time and the android phones still leave a lot to be desired. I am not a happy android user, though I could teach classes.in how to use the things.
I used to be on a Treo forum that was really great, mytreo.net, I think is what it was called, was full of great helpful Treo users. But, of course it ended when the Treo was no longer supported.
so hello android central!
