I?m new to this website and don?t post much to any site but I decided to post here to give everyone my point of view of smart phones and specifically on the android phone htc inspire I purchased about a week ago. First of all, there at least three type of smart phone users users (young casual users, mothers and professionals), all with different needs and priorities. I?m an adult professional user and my requirements of a smart phone are as follows:
- The phone, very important that it has a strong antenna, don?t like dropping calls. Easy to access contacts. The Droid is not a quick as my blackberry, I need to tap the search and tap on a few letters to find my contact, on the blackberry, I used to press a char of the first name, space and char of the last name and it would take me there quickly displaying my option of call, text and email.
- Calendar, need to be able to quickly log an appointment and be able to easily access it while on the phone. Better than my blackberry, its nice that I can display the calendar in the middle of the screen and see my next appt without having to open the calendar.
- Maps, I travel a lot and I need a phone with a good GPS. Love the maps on the droid, the use of google maps is of course nice and like that fact that it provides you with a street view as you?re approaching your destination.
- Finding places, its great to be able to go into the places page and find restaurants, coffee shops, hotels etc.
- Camera, I?m a dad and its great to have a decent camera on the phone to take impromptu pix and videos of my son. Its better than my blackberry and the larger screen is very nice.
- Email, need to read my email, be able to follow links and respond with short emails. So much better than the blackberry, tapping the screen and being able to expand text and tap on links and read attachments on a large screen its great.
- Web, need to search for companies and people from airports, parking lots etc, it great to do quick researches on companies and people prior to a meeting. So much nicer on a large and touch screen.
- Read a book, its great to unwind and read a book during a flight or airport. Just did a test and its great, did not have that on the blackberry.
- Music, its great to carry some of your favor music to listen while taking a break from it all.
I have been a user of blackberrys and Samsung phones. Blackberry definitely caters to the business users but they?re lacking the touch screen technology and screen size at this point. I tested the iphone and was not too crazy about it plus the issue with the phone antenna concerned me. A cell phone needs to be a phone before all the rest of the stuff.
The htc inspire and Android 2.2.1 work very well. Iphone users, specially business users, the Android is going to give the iphone some heavy competition.
My two main issues with the htc inspire:
- Battery life
- Synchronization to outlook, the htc synchronizing program works but it has some issues, it doubled my contact the first time I ran the sync and it does not have give you an option to synchronize notes. It needs to work thru blue tooth and work like windows mobile sync, as soon as you make a change to the calendar or appointments, it syncs immediately.
I give the Android htc inspire a 9 out of 10.
