New to Atrix and Android in General. Any Tips?

Hello and welcome to the Android Community!

Lets see here. It depends on what functions your looking for. Download Beautiful Widgets from the market. That enables you to have a Sense like Clock widget on your home screen. I think almost just about everyone gets that App. I dont recommend rooting or getting into any of that now since your new to this whole scene. But can you be a little more specific as to what you like to do on the phone? What type of apps are you looking for?

Enjoy!

for me a must have App was GoSMS Pro. It is free and best of all it has no ads. It adds a lot of very nice features to the phone.
Followed by twitter (I use plumb), facebook.
If you use Amazon Cloud then the Amazon player
Pandra.
Those are my big apps that I find myself using the most during the week I have the phone.

Now I rooted so I could get sideloading for Amazon App store.

I will definitely have to look into the Beautiful Widgets app. I considered it earlier, but still don't have the disposable income in order to buy it. I do plan on getting it later.

I'm running the Base Facebook and Twitter apps because I have yet to figure out a better app for each. Have tried multiple apps that combine the two, but none of them suit my tastes. If there are better apps, whether together or separate, please throw them my way.

I am also looking for a good checkbook-style app. Something to help keep my money in check a bit better.

Any other apps you may recommend are appreciated. Always interested in new apps.

Welcome to Android!
I too am a new Android user (my Atrix is my first and current Android device).

My most used apps are:

Advanced Task Manager
Barcode Scanner
Color Note (I'm a very organized person, and this is a life saver)
Pure Calendar (well worth the $)
Beat the Traffic (free version works pretty well)
YouTube
AppBrain
Pro HDR Camera (well worth the $2)
Wikipedia
Droid Light (allows you to use your flash on the phone as a flashlight)
Dolphin Browser
Score Center (for ESPN / Sports)

Look through those in the android market and see if they fit your style. That should be a good start.

I noticed you recommended the Pro HDR Camera app. I went to the market and was reading reviews and some people are saying it takes blurry pictures and you have to be very still. Others say it takes waaay to long to take a picture. Im hoping its just their phones. How well does it work for your Atrix? I have the Atrix to btw.

Welcome to Android!

Like you, I recently switched (for personal phone, had used previously in work environments).

I think there will be some overlap
- Beautiful Widgets (basically a staple on everyone's phone)
- Widgetsoid (used to create custom power switch widgets)
- Pandora (an absolute must)
- WInamp (I was nostalgic)
- Plume (for twitter)
- Facebook (obviously)
- Titanium Backup (personally, I root/flash so this is great to do one click restore)
- App Brain
- TripIt (I travel constantly for work, I prefer this to Delta or American Airlines native app)
- Mint (similar to iPhone version of app, hopefully they make this more robust in the future)
- iSYNCR (I used this to wirelessly sync my music on my Atrix with my iTunes library)

Phil,
The Pro HDR Camera App works great. If people are complaining that it takes blurry pic it's because they don't know how to hold their phone still while the phone is taking a series of pictures.

Now I'm not a photography expert, but the way HDR photography works is you take a series of pictures (you allow different exposure times to capture light from different areas) and "stitch" them together. So what this app does is it takes 3 pictures of what you're looking at and then it "stitches" them together. That is how you obtain light in more than one area of the photo. A quick google or Wikipedia search will explain in more detail.

Just make sure you hold the phone still because any significant movement will blur the picture. I would say it probably takes a good 3-4 seconds to take an HDR picture. (Note this app does not replace the original camera function on the phone, so you can take a quick snapshot like normal, or use the app to get a more vibrant picture).

What's cool is after it takes the series of pictures and combines them, you can adjust brightness and contrast, etc right after it takes the picture. So you can modify the pic to your liking.

Hope this helps. You also have 15 min to get a refund after you buy the app if you don't like it. $2 is nothing anyways.
