Hey Guys,

New to Atrix, need to know following.

(1) When is AT&T going to have 4G network for Atrix? I could not find this info on AT&T website.
(2) Is there any Video Chat application for Atrix? I know they don't have skype.

Thanks a bunch.

Regarding #1

there is plenty of info in these forums regarding the "4G" on AT&T. "4G" (a.k.a. HSPA+) is already in place in most areas but the backhaul hasn't been fully implemented in most areas. You won't see "4G" speeds until the backhaul is complete in your area.

From what I've heard, 4G will be flipped on March 1st, but it also depends on when it's active for your area.

Excuse me, "4G" :p

Tango is not functioning properly with the Atrix and other droids... but this is the most unified app with all smartphones (Droid, Apple) hopefully they get post an update to fix the issue (force closing)

Rumor has it LTE will be available via a software update whenever that comes out.

may be I don't under this 4G talk but where is the map or city list? anything? I am so lost!

Edit: Verizon has a map and city list and also the "future cities" so how can i find this for AT&T 4G?

Actually you just reminded me. I spoke on the phone with this girl at AT&T which she also helped me out with A LOT. I wont get into those details but I asked her about the 4G service and what will happen when LTE rolls out. She said a memo said that when LTE rolls out, HSPA+ phones will be capible of it and a software update will be pushed out also that will switch the icon from H+ to LTE. So, take that for what its worth. She said right now its not TRUE 4G. But as time goes on, it will be.

Impossible, since the Qualcomm MDM6200 modem chip in our Atrix only supports up to HSPA+. Motorola would have to tear open our phones and replace the modem chip with one that actually supports LTE/HSPA+ like the Qualcomm MDM9200 or MDM9600.

Where is proof from an actual document that states that? It would make it more believable so people will know.

That jives with what the guy at the AT&T store told me yesterday.

I got the same response from 2 different reps today, a software update. Makes sense b/c Motorola is doing the same for the Xoom on Verizon. Only thing that scares me a little is the fact that no one is saying yes or no when they are saying yes for the Xoom.

I believe it will only be HSPA+, which is being marketed as "4G speeds", but it's not LTE. So yes, the switch will be "flipped" in certain areas and will continue to grow.

You just got the same incorrect response from 2 different reps. Its a hardware issue as was posted above. The Atrix does not have an LTE radio installed.

Motorola is installing both LTE hardware and software, which is why the Xoom's have to be sent back to factory for the update.

Form the article last week about the xoom update: ( http://www.androidcentral.com/motor...ed-xooms-lte-data-if-they-have-stock-software )

"For devices that are returned unlocked, Motorola will attempt to complete the upgrade, but may be unable to update the software. In these cases, the device will be returned to the consumer with just the 4G LTE modem installed."
