New to droid questions

Hi all, just got a droid pro as an upgrade to the berry. Figured out most things through searching the forum and viewing the help files. There are two things I did not see though.

Pattern lock, if I get it wrong it shows me and anyone near what the wrong code is. I'd like to disable showing what the droid saw me enter. Possible?

Display dimming before timeout. If I set it to 30 seconds, just before it locks the display dims to a really low brightness for a couple seconds. If i bump it up to a minute it still only dimms just before it shuts off. I'd love for it to be set to 30 seconds to goto a dim screen and 30 more to off. Any way to do that?

Once you've set up the pattern, an option for "Use visible pattern" comes up that should determine if others can see it or not.

Personally I'm more confused why there's still a slide to unlock and *then* a pattern lock after that. Isn't one lock enough?!
