I just bought the Turbo2. I moved up from the Galaxy s5. The question I have is on my Galaxy s5 i was able to set custom text message tones for each contact listed in my contacts list. Are you able to do this on the Turbo2. I know you can do it for when they are calling but not sure about for the texts.

How are you liking the T2? My gf has a s4 and I'm looking at this for an upgrade. No notification light is kinda killing it though

It's worth getting. Great sound and call quality it is a phone after all lol.
Takes great pics and it's fast. No complaints.

See on the galaxy s5 when you went to edit a contact it had a spot for custom text tone and custom ringtone for each individual contact. And i see it for the rington for each contact on the Turbo2 but not for text tones. Thats why i was wondering.

It's there but buried in the menu. Go to contacts. Click the person you want to change ringtones. Click the three dots.

But thats just for ringtones isnt it? Im talking about the text tone. See on the s5 you were able to give each contact their own personal ringtone and text tone. Now on the DT2 i see where you can give each contact their own personal ringtone but not their own personal text message tone.

If you install the third party messaging app Textra you can assign each conversation a specific ringtone. I think you can as well with Google Messaging, but that's only after you've sent or received a message, and group messages are different from individual contacts (so if you get a message from Jane Doe as part of a group message it will use the ringtone of the group message and not of Jane Doe.)

It's possible that to Verizon message app has a similar feature but I never use that app - I never liked it.

I actually like the Verizon messaging app though it crashes from time to time

not sure why you/she would care about a notification LED when the phone's display breathes your notifications, shows you what type they are, and you can see what the notification is with a tap and hold of your finger on the icon.

Interesting I didn't know that it did that.

It's called Active Display, and there are a number of other things Moto added to their phones that I can say become pretty essential in everyday life.

Touchless/Voice Control
Camera gesture to turn it on in a pinch
Flashlight chopchop gesture (I personally find this one very useful)
Moto Actions - automatically adjust based on whether you're driving, sleeping, in a meeting etc.

The Droid Ultra phones used to have a Where's my phone feature, but I guess they took it out on T2.

The Active Display is very nice. I was apprehensive at first but it does work really well.

Just to be pedantic, active display is now called Moto Display, and touchless control is now called Moto Voice, since the 2014 Moto X and Droid Turbo.

I came from a Note 3 and that was my biggest concern about setting individual text notifications. As far as I can tell you can't do it natively within the contacts.

I tried messing around with the Message+, but wasn't fond of it. I didn't find any settings for individual notifications either.

I use Next SMS (Handcent), which like Textra you can customize notifications for contacts. I only had or hiccup in that after installing it, it wouldn't pay the assigned notifications or any for that matter. I rebooted and everything has been working great.

Is Handcent still putting ads in the message area? That is the main reason I stopped using it after five years and went to ChompSMS.
