New to forum, trying to learn all I can before rooting my phone; would hate to brick it but with my luck and all can't be too cautious. Thank for all the info in advance.

Hi and welcome. Your doing the smart thing by doing you're research before attempting to root. Read, read, and read some more. Familiarize yourself with the process for rooting your phone agead of time and you should be fine.

Check out the Getting Started thread. In particular check out the section on Applications. The last part is on Rooting.

One option is that there are apps that will give you temporary root without actually doing a full root. It might be a way to ease your way in.
