New to rooting. Please help

I am new to this and want to unlock my phone. It is a verizon galaxy s3. what do I need to do to unlock it? Pretend you are talking to a 10 year old, that is how much I know about this. Thanks!

What are you hoping to accomplish by unlocking your phone?
What are you wanting to root the phone for, particularly if you're new to this?
These really aren't things that the typical new user would be messing with, especially since it'll void your warranty.

I just got my GS3 today and looked up rooting and found this video^ I was going to ask if it is easy to root as this video shows. Now that i see somebody else recommending it, i guess it's that simple. Rooting my Tbolt wasn't too hard, but it wasn't this easy lol.

Unlocking a phone and Rooting a phone are 2 different things. Unlocking a phone is so you can use it on another provider. Rooting a phone is so you can control all aspects of the phone. Which are you wanting to do?

Just rooted my Verizon Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 today (4.1.2) Took all of 15 minutes and I am new to rooting

Quick question on this Rooting thing I've been reading about also. If I Root my S3 will I have control over things that Verizon has blocked, stripped out or changed on the phone?
