Hey guys,

I'm new to the S3 and I've been having a problem with the contacts.
I've deleted all the contacts that synced from my gmail and facebook account, so when hitting the phonebook it only shows the contacts on my simcard.
However, when I send a text message and want to add a contact, the contact list still shows everyone that has been synced. Can someone tell me how to remove all the unwanted gmail/facebook contacts from the "text message" contact list. Hopefully that's not too confusing.
Thanks for the help!

-----EDIT----
So when I delete my facebook and gmail sync it will delete all of the unwanted contacts which is want I want.
However, I want to keep my phone synced just without the extra unwanted contacts.
Again, they have been deleted from my contact list, but they still appear when I text and try to add contact.

----EDIT----
I've read that people have deleted all their contacts off of gmail, however, I would prefer not to delete my contacts off my gmail list.
And I haven't found any solutions to the same problem with facebook.

Just so I understand, you don't want your Google or Facebook contacts on your phone any more? Just the contacts that you have on your SIM card?
If that's the case, the easiest way might be to factory reset, then when you set up your accounts don't enable contact syncing.

Well I want to keep it synced just with only the people that I want aka (ppl on my sim card).
I also figured out that it's taking all of my google contacts from my "other contacts" which is everyone i've emailed at least once and all of my facebook friends.
i've deleted them from my contact book but they still appear when i'm asked to select someone to text

log into google contacts online, delete them all then start from scratch?
or create a new google account

sadly, that seems like the only alternative at this point.
unfortunately, i have valuable email contacts in my list that I can't delete but I do not want on the phone.
If I start a new google account, I won't have any of my needed emails come to my phone.

I've managed to sync the accounts and have only my needed contacts show up on my contacts list.
However, they all still appear when I try to use text messaging.

make a new account and manualy add the contacts that you need from the old account. only problem will be if youve purchased anything from play store.
if so, just do the opposite way.
whats the problem with you having these unwanted contacts on your phone anyway? i have hundreds ill never use and duplicates times4 lol but they dont get in the way, i just start typin the name until the one i need appears.
maybe some dialer/contact apps can "hide" contacts?

or set up a "group" in your sms app containing only the contacts u want?

I figured it is an s3 bug more than anything.
It allows me to hide people without phone numbers in my contact list but doesn't connect that to my messaging list.
It's simply a hassle to type David...and have 10 Davids appear to choose from, when 8 of those Davids are people I don't even have numbers for.

Unfortunately it is my main email address and it would be a huge hassle to transfer everything to a new email.
I'll just wait for an update or look for an app that will do it for me.
Thanks for the help though!

It is possible to send text messages to email so maybe the messaging app is showing everyone with a number or email address.

Just had the same problem and fixed it. Sign into your gmail ONLINE. Don't use Outlook or Tbird or any other program you may have set up for mail, it has to be the online gmail. Go to the 'contacts' in that online account and that's where you will find all those pesky names that don't show anywhere else. Here's what I did: 'Compose' then 'To', and only a few names popped up but there is a little grey box that says 'My Contacts'...click it and choose 'all contacts' and that's where mine were hiding. Checked them and deleted them and went back to my S3 and they were magically GONE! YIPEE!

Not sure if I understand exactly what you want to accomplish, but to get rid of the extra contacts from the messaging app try going into Application manager and deleting data for the messaging app.

I just bought my s3 a couple of days ago but my issues is with the contact list the only items I see and can edit are name, phone number and email

I do NOT have any where about ringtones. Help anyone?
