New to site and looking at Android choices

I am looking at smart phone / android phones and trying to figure out what is best for me. I am currently with Verizon, but my 2yr commitment is fulfilled so I am considering Straight Talk due to the pricing for unlimited everything....any suggestions on phone or provider are welcome. Also would like to be able to use the phone as my internet connection for my laptop, again any suggestions on phone and provider to use. I go to school on-line and thus I have a concern as to the amount of data I may, and that is why I am considering Straight Talk, but I have been told that using your phone as your internet connection violates the service agreement with Straight Talk...welcome to suggestions.

Doesn't virgin mobile have tethering. I think if you get one of there 4G phone you can add on tethering for a fee. But if don't have the plan they might cancel your service.
