Got a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) in November, and am building a relationship with it -- and with Android. I've been lurking at Android Central for months, and am most grateful for the help and resources here. (After registering this morning, I can follow the links!)

I love the tablet, and am easing into the Apps experience (Lecture Notes, Dolphin and Boat browsers, GPS Status & Toolbar, OfficeSuite Pro, among others).

I'm security-obsessed, and feel very exposed at granting the broad access that so many apps require. I do use the Witopia virtual private network, but am disappointed to find that places like Starbucks and some interstate highway rest stops block some or all access to the Web through VPNs. I'm a longtime Norton customer, and am using Norton's mobile security on the tablet.

Looking forward to more time at Android Central, as well as at Android Forums (which doesn't seem very active) and XDA Developers. Thanks for being here.

Welcome to the best forum around! :).

Welcome to Android Central! Keep in mind that lots of apps across all platforms require lots of permissions. Android just does a better job of telling you what those permissions are. I don't think the Apple Appstore is as forthcoming.

This. I'm sure the iOS counterparts require the same permissions as the ones on Android. Apple just doesn't tell you about them when installing your apps.

Welcome to the forums and Android. Some permissions are just worded strange. Like 'read phone calls': most of the time this just means the app will be shifted to the background when a call comes in.

Welcome to Android Central.
I personally love The Note 10.1 as it's more clever than an iPad, with a better screen than nearly every other Android tablet and with microSD expandability, this is a lean, mean full-sized tablet from Samsung. S Pen notation, a Flipboard invasion, Multi Window - all big wins that will be copied by many a rival in the months ahead.
Enjoy it :)
