New to the android features

I am new to the android phone and so far love it. I recently bought the Samsung Transform Ultra through boost mobile and find it to be a pretty good phone for a first android and have seen some problems with it but still am enjoying the phone. One minor problem is when i use Market on my wireless it has trouble keeping connected and I have to reconnect several times before it finally stays online. I have always had interests in trying to tweak up a phone and would like to try to step this phone up a notch. Some of the apps I noticed I should not run because it locks up the phone..do not want to trash anyones hard work. So I have pretty much decided I want to root this phone to be able to run the apps I want with no problems..if that is possible with rooting.
