Welcome mpgo. and congrats on your droid, dont feel overwhelmed there is just a little learning curve.....In the android os you dont close apps out like you would in lets say windows or IOS, android is set up for multi-tasking so you can leave the app and come back pick up where you left off, there is no need to close an app out because as you open apps android holds them in the background. you can continue to open apps when the system comes to the point when it needs more space for the next application, android basically decides based on your usage and importance of application what to close out on its own..

that being said, lets say you really need to close out an app because maybe the developer didnt add an exit button and a siren keeps going off and you cant shut it off (totally just made that up lol) you can do the following

Settings>applications>manage applications> select the application you want to close scroll down and you will see a button that says Force stop, click that and it will be shut down..

But like i said this should not be necessary

Thanks so much. I came from a blackberry so this droid2 feels like a super computer.

The community is here to help. When closing out your apps that you don't plan on going back to for a while, you can also use the back key instead of hitting home and that might help you out as well. But like DroidXcon said, Android will help you out with the multitasking. The D2 is a great device and I'm sure you will love it as your getting used to it. I got one for my wife for her first android phone and she is starting to get the hang of it. Any other questions you have, most answers can be found in the forums and for any you can't find just ask.

My wife got one too and she hates it. She got the facebook app loaded and she said the background is black and not like face book at all. Also how can I delete alps I don't want?

Im not sure about the background of the Facebook application being black. Uninstalling alps from the market is easy, just find the app in the market, long press, and choose the option to uninstall. Alps that came on the device already cannot be deleted without rooting.

You can also uninstall apps from settings, if you prefer.

You mentioned the browser, so I figured I'd throw in this pointer as well. Most of the time I like to open links in new pages, which allows me to return to where I was without reloading the previous page (comes in handy when you're on a news site like regator.com). Every time I leave my browser, out of habit, I just close all open windows. This will reload your home page, leaving only that one window open and basically setting you up with a clean slate.
Just an OCD friendly tip from someone who spends a lot of time on their browser.

That's not the facebook app. That's the social networking icon that includes facebook. She may need to go to the market to get the FB app.

Yeah, have her download the actual Facebook app from the market. It still needs a lot of work but is much better than using the social networking. As for the app closing thing, a lot of developers do include an "Exit" option in the main menu. The only apps that really need an exit option are ones that can be a nuisance to keep running - like an instant messenger client. I use Meebo and just sign out before exiting the app.

Thanks for all of the replies. She got the FB app and we gave the D2 a week to try it out. The phone is great, we both love it now. We both had Blackberry phones and the droid is so much better. It is just taking us a while to learn it. This is a great site.
