So I finally turned in the Palm Treo. As an almost retirement age senior citizen, I'm probably a bit more comfortable with technology and change than most my age, but I still have my biases.

Research led me to Android over iPhone (for the open aspect) and a friend and other research lead me to the Samsung Galaxy S II. It's been a bit of a learning curve, and honestly there are a lot of things that the Palm OS did better, but I'm really happy overall with my choice.

I did need some help and encouragement from my kids to stick with it through the initial learning phase. Thanksgiving week vacation afforded me the time to spend a TON of time learning.

I still have some hang ups. I'm hoping that ICS will get ported to this phone (AT&T says yes, but that remains to be seen...) and perhaps some of my frustrations will be addressed.

One of my biggest complaints is the lousy stock email app. When I got the phone they had me set up my email account. It promptly downloaded 350 "new" emails, and there is NO WAY to SELECT ALL! What a piece of CRAP! I don't want to root the phone, not yet anyway. I'm hoping that ICS will have a REAL email client. Meanwhile I'm using K-9, but that stock icon with 750 unread messages bugs me. And even if I move it off the main screen, it's still there downloading.

There are other complaints, and then there is the spotty performance of the BlueAnt T1 BT headset. I suppose not all of my complaints are Android, many may be the T1. I'll need to keep both the phone and ear piece up to date and see the the bugs get zapped.

Anyway, so far I'm 90% happy. Baring any unanticipated super glitches, I'm sure that will rise with experience, new apps, and updates.

If anyone has any info on the new email app for ICS, please LMK.

Welcome to AC.. as you already know, K9 and Touchdown would be your second best choices for 3rd party email apps. ICS as well should be an improvement. Enjoy the forums..

Welcome to the Android Central forums. The stock email app should have an option to remove an account, or you can set the app to never refresh with the server. Enjoy.
