New user... Ordering an EVO today!

Long time reader, first time poster here. I'm ordering an EVO today, but I had a quick question in regards to using the EVO as a music player. I've done my fair share of research on all the different music player apps (doubletwist and Power Amp are the two that come to mind now), even bTunes which looks like it got pulled from the app catalog unfortunately. What my goal here is this: I have an iPod Touch and a Palm Pre (Blackberry 9630 before that) and my goal is to eliminate the need to carry both devices with me at all times. Although my iPod is a 32 gig, I currently have a 16 gig card to use for the EVO. I'm planning on using iSyncr to get my music to the EVO, but what I'm wondering is this: How is the sound quality of the music? Most of my music is either 128 or 256 kbps AAC files and I use Shure E2C's as my earbuds. Is the sound quality up to par with iPods?

Sounds good enough for me... I never owned an Ipod but I owned a Pre and only used it once for music other than that I used my Zune. The power amp app has lots of settings to tailor the music to your own taste and it's an awesome app but it lacks lock screen controls. I don't think cellphones batteries last long enough for me to want to use it as my primary music player.

I listen to music in my car on my Evo and it sounds good to me. I have an auxiliary cable that I plug in the headphone jack.

Lately I've been using the Winamp app. I think it's one of the best music players out there. IMO .. I don't use any type of syncing software though. I've never really liked iTunes or any of the music managers though.

I just copy my music over WiFi and/or download albums on my phone using the Amazonmp3.

I recently tried PowerAMP and like it but I still prefer Winamp. The only thing PowerAMP has that I Winamp doesn't (that I want) is lock screen controls.

The default HTC music player actually has really nice lock screen controls/integration.

Actually PowerAMP does have lock screen controls. You have to enable them in the settings menu.

For me music play back (mostly podcast) hasn't ever been an issue on my battery. Music play back from the SD card barely drains the battery at all (from my experience). Streaming (Slacker, Pandora, etc) is a whole nother story though because of the constant network usage.

I ditched my iPod when I got my EVO. I use the stock music app, and I think it works great. I also listen to music in the car. I don't have a AUX input, so I use an FM Transmitter. I have been very pleased with the EVO as a music player.

They only thing I don't like, and this is being very picky, is that when I put music on shuffle, it really will shuffle things randomly. It won't necessarily play every song before things repeat. Sometimes you will hear the same song multiple times while you are listening. Some songs you may not hear at all. The shuffle is truly random. Other that that, it works really well for me, especially since I don't have to carry another device.

I like the fact that in the car, when someone calls, I don't have to stop the music. The phone call supersedes the music, and automatically pauses the music to let the phone call through.

The sound quality is just as good as anything else I have used before. As for getting my music onto my Evo, i just stuck my sd card into the computer and coppied all the music over to the card and put it in. Done and done

i've streamed a little radio, bit rate is lower than i would like, but it sounded fine on the desk speakers i was using. i won't use it as my ipod replacement since that is fully intergrated into my car stereo, holds 120 gigs and i rip music at a way higher level than 128 or 256 to maintain as much of the sound as possible.
