Newbie to rooting

If I root my Incredible will I lose all my settings and programs? Also Will it be the stock ROM that it came with just rooted?

If you root it you will not lose all of your settings and programs. However, if you decide to flash a custom ROM then you must wipe everything before uploading it, so if you root your phone, its the same phone and stock ROM, and you didnt have to wipe anything. So I recommend checking out unrevoked3, PRONTO!!!!
