Okay, where do i start? I have a gnex and im rooted via nexus toolkit by wugs. I would like to get into custom roms and kernals, but i have no idea what it is or what part of the phone i am changing. Im no dummy, just a newbie when it comes to smartphones. The lango in the forums are out there or rocket science so to speak. Is there a place i can read upon this, so one doesnt have to explain every question i have. Dont want to waste someones time. Another thing is i currently have apps, but unpaid. I know the paid apps seem to have more options and seem better, and believe the hard work that goes in the apps and info should be compensated. Is there a safe way to do so without my credit card being stolen or drained. Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to Android Central.

In answer to your question about what is rooting and custom ROMs and kernels...

Custom ROMs are the stock OS, left completely stock with root capabilities (option to run root required apps.) to slightly modified to completely changed up from stock OS in looks and features...

Kernels are basically the link between your device and the OS. Kernel controls everything.. Common things are like altering processor speeds for unclocking or overclocking of your processor speeds.... Example better battery life :)

As far as buying paid apps and worrying about your credit card data, that is all secure on Google's servers and really isn't a worry. If your that worried you can go out and get a prepaid credit card from any store, load it up with a set amount and link your Google account to that credit card. Saves your normal credit cards or bank account debt cards from being used.

All this and more can be found here within the forums if you search around the Getting started links.
