Newby needs help with the response voice

Please help me.
As a new by to the wonderful Nexus 7 32gb 3g data version I would love to know how to turn on the siri type voice.
I can do voice search where I speak into the tablet and I get a written Google response.
But please, please, how do I get the voice to respond to my questions?

Please keep you answers simple because at my age things that seem simple to you can be very confusing to me.

Thanks but didn't help. No matter what I have tried or the questions I have asked I have never, repeat, never had a response by either female or male voice.
Please help me someone.

Ask who is the president of united States.

If you don't get an answer go to menu-- voice-- language set it to US.
Menu-- voice-- speech output-- always speak

It certainly is but as a Yorkshire man until 40 years ago it would have been better with a White Rose in the centre!!
