Newest Optimus V unrootable?

I have just bought a replacement Optimus V from Bestbuy. I have previously rooted my old Optimus V bought in August with the latest zergRush. Unfortunately, my replacement will not root with any method I have tried. zergRush does not automatically restart adb and any attempts to log in with adb are met with error: closed. Fastboot is locked, of course.

A person with the same problems and conclusion is here:

Is this phone truly unrootable right now?

If so, is this the only unrootable Android phone currently?

If so, what are the chances the Motorola Triumph will be patched this way? I wanted to exchange for one but not if it is going to be locked up too.

Edit:
Success! I was able to get a version of gingerbreak to work. Thanks for the input.

What's with the repeats? The V is not unrootable, old or new. Read the simplified how-to sticky on this forum.

GingerBreak has been verified to root stock ROM 2.2.2 & older. May need multiple tries, give each attempt 10 minutes before hard power cycle.

I'm receiving a new OV in a couple of days. Bought it for my sister in law for x-mas. Once it arrives, I'll be rooting and installing IHO on it, so I'll be able to post the method I use to root it.

I've used gingerbreak 1.2 on two different OV's, purchased in the last two months.
One I bought last week when it was on sale, for my woman... It had a slightly newer firmware version than the last one I bought, but gingerbreak worked just fine for me.
